Humanism is Atheistic and Inhuman

The word humanist  has been used in different ways, usually in a benevolent way. People have stated that they are humanists because they believe in the decency and beauty of humanity. Indeed, humanists can be involved in humanitarian relief efforts. Humanism is religious in nature, and that has a very dark side. These humanists believe that they have no need for God, who probably does not even exist — but they hate him anyway. Many times atheists acquire political power and it becomes disastrous for all concerned. Strangely, they think they are good without God. This graphic about atheist dictators has had a great deal of traction since I made it in 2010 The French Revolution began with legitimate complaints about the monarchy, but turned into the atheistic Reign of Terror with thousands of murders. After Charles Darwin came on the scene, evolution became a major part of the religion of secular humanism. Instead of peace, tolerance, prosperity, and all that good stuff, they bring t...

Interracial Marriage and the Bible

Decades ago, I remember my parents speaking in a disapproving manner about a marriage between black and white people. There was something about staying with "their own kind" because the couple would trouble from both sides. Nowadays, mixed marriages are common, but they still may receive some flak. For millennia, people have had negativity toward different groups due to pigment, culture, and other things. Racism sounded scientific because of Darwinism and it grew tremendously because of it. Biblically, God created only one race  — and science is catching up with the Bible. Bible and wedding rings, Pexels / Alexander Mass Just a side note here. I am writing this on what would have been our twentieth wedding anniversary if my wife had not died just over two years ago. Remember the evolution story about Neanderthals? Stupid brutes that were a link between humans and apelike creatures — except that the evidence shows they were fully human , and they interbred with modern humans. ...

Science May Know How, But Not Why

Parents of small children dread the "Why?" stage, as it can continue for quite a while. The first question is asked, and when the answer is given, "Why?" is next. Repeat ad nauseum . Sometimes it seems that the child does not really want to know because it is just a game. Centuries ago, I mentioned to someone that science cannot answer why something happens. I was told that science does know why. Well, why is the sky blue? The answer involves light waves, but that is how . Tell me why  the laws of physics exist. Microscope, Pixabay / Konstantin Kolosov Secular scientists presuppose naturalism. That is, everything happens without the influence of God or spirits. While it is good for scientists to look for natural explanations for phenomena and not simply say, "God did it" without investigating further, secularists tend to essentially use, "Evolution did it" or similar. It is folly for Christians (including scientists who are believers) to leave G...

All is Vanity under the Sun

When Solomon became king in place of his father David, God spoke to him and asked what he could do for him. He asked for wisdom. The Lord was pleased, giving him the wisdom and other rewards, and his wisdom became famous. Indeed, even today, people refer to the "wisdom of Solomon." People wonder about the meaning of life and why we are here in the first place. Some even seek out philosophers and gurus for answers, only to come away unsatisfied. Solomon did some investigation and reached a conclusion. Traffic under the sun on Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge, Unsplash / Cowboy Bob Sorensen The book of Ecclesiastes has some allusions to creation in Genesis. It can also seem depressing, but that is because Solly was taking secular views and experiencing things that people seek out for pleasure and learning. He shows why humanistic thinking and leaving God out of our lives is vanity. Of all the books in the Old Testament, one of the most mysterious and least understood must surely be E...

No, Humans are not Animals

As I was leaving town, riding east out Folly Road, I came across with Rusty Swingset, foreman of the Darwin Ranch up near Deception Pass. He was with Jacqueline Hyde (who was not really herself that day). We met near Stinking Lake. It was a nice day so we stopped and made chin music for a spell. Sometimes Rusty can be hard to like, and he was a mite on the prod that day. I mentioned having seen a bounty hunter bringing in a bad guy. This jasper was a real animal, and I said so. Tiger, Pixabay / Felix Schweitz   (I like tigers) "Was it Randall that brought in that guy?" asked Swingset. "Nope, it was a different fellow. Didn't hear his name," I replied. "You said the baddie's an animal. Well, Charles Darwin was right, we're all animals." "Not true," I said. Rusty squinted at me and adjusted his hat while Jacqueline looked bored. "Study on this. We're warm blooded, females give milk, breathe air, eat, and all sorts of things lik...

Getting the Manger Scene Right?

Sometimes people have a bit of irreverent but harmless fun playing with a manger (creche, nativity) scene on their table, putting characters or other objects in them that clearly do not belong. The humor comes from knowledge of inaccuracy. People who have seriously read articles and watched videos that carefully examine the biblical text may not care for manger scenes. When I was younger, I put the Magi figures away from the manger because they were en route . But what has been added to or taken away from biblical history? Nativity scene, Unsplash /  Rick Oldland That's right, the Magi (probably an entourage, not just three) were not there to see the infant Jesus. They saw him as a child in a house. Ever notice that the majority of creche scene makers do not realize that those involved were Jewish? Then there's that business about the hotel and the cold-hearted innkeeper who turned Joseph and Mary away, but his wife took care of them...cool story, bro. A question on the accurac...

Evolutionary Thinking Slapped Down by Biblical Family

People consider humans to be animals, and there is a sense that is true. We are classified that way because it is expedient. While similarities are used by believers in minerals-to-mother evolution as evidence for their view, the evidence also points to the common Designer. Since we are animals, we should act like them. Such an idea fails from the get-go — except in sexual activity. Secularists believe we should spread around our genes, so promiscuity can be "scientifically" excused. Darwinian models tend to support this idea. Family in the woods, Unsplash / Ioann-Mark Kuznietsov While sexual promiscuity is growing, people who are cohabiting without marriage often have problems when a partner is unfaithful. Also, Darwinists tend to look at selected data to make their views seem compelling instead of saddling up and riding to the top of the hill to get the big picture. Mayhaps genes are spread around, but the children do not do nearly as well as those from a biblical family as...

The Genesis Flood and the Church Fathers

Professing Christians who believe in an old earth say things that are untrue, going beyond disagreements on scientific evidence. Why these old-earthers compromise on the age of the earth, embrace atheistic interpretations of science, and deny what the Bible plainly says is puzzling. They also go beyond simple carelessness or disagreement and present untruths. One is that young-age creation is the new kid on the church history block. Some have also falsely claimed that the church fathers were old-earthers . But what did those leaders say about the Genesis Flood? Quintus Septimius Florens Tertullianus ( Tertullian ) The question of the Flood is relevant because it supports biblical creation science and the young earth. Compromisers often deny literal creation as described in the Bible, and they cannot  accept the global Genesis Flood because it wrecks long ages. So they come up with stories to downplay it that are...truly bizarre. The church fathers believed what the Bible teaches ab...

Thankful for the Trail Markers

by Cowboy Bob Sorensen My wife and I were beginning to walk some rail trails and others, but she had back problems and had to stop. She died after back surgery. I continued partly in her honor and to have some new adventures. Several I investigated would not have appealed to her had she survived. Experienced hikers find these trails to be fairly easy. I am still learning as well as being careful because I am over sixty and have a few health issues. Shaupeneak Ridge is a place I did not know existed but decided to explore. Red trail on Shaupeneak Ridge, Town of Esopus, NY, Unsplash / Cowboy Bob Sorensen This area has a number of marked trails, and after doing online research, I decided that the red trail and its view of the Hudson River would be worthwhile. This was my last excursion of this type for the season, as autumn was underway and the weather was turning. Ain't no way this cowboy was going to slip and fall out there in the winter, no siree! The trails are marked rather well...

The Reformation and Doors to Salvation

Just over 500 years ago, distressed monk Martin Luther used the social media of his day. He posted ninety-five theses on the Wittenberg church door. There were errors in Catholic teachings and practices, and he wanted them addressed. So began the Protestant Reformation. Many groups that say they are Christian claim to hold the Bible in high regard, but they often find ways around believing what is plainly taught. Things are added to Scripture (Prov. 30:5-6), omitted, ignored, remixed, other books given a superior position — plus folks claiming it does not mean what it says. Luther nailing 95 theses , Ferdinand Pauwels, 1872, modified with FotoSketcher One of the main points of the Reformation was a return to biblical truth. Sola Scriptura : Scripture alone. None of this supplemental stuff or people presuming to tell God what he said and meant. Note that Luther posted his issues on the door. There are several doors in the Bible regarding salvation. One is the door of Noah's Ark. Ano...

Thoughts of Heaven and Getting There

People have ideas about what Heaven is like, but much of those are from media mythologies. People have wings, walking on clouds, have halos...storytelling. Religious figures in classical art were depicted with halos, so that may be a source for the myth. Reality is far different and more awesome. It has been almost two years since my wife died, and I will meet her in Heaven along with others I knew who have gone before in a grand reunion. Indeed, when it is time for me to go, I picture her and Jesus coming for me. Heaven clip art, Free Christian Images I'll allow that many ideas that people have about Heaven are speculative and non-biblical, Christians included. We learn some things from Scripture about it and about the departed, but there can be a mix (some of my ideas would be rejected by theologians). I have been told to talk to my wife because she is watching over me. I tell them that she's got Heaven stuff to do. When I wake up in the morning, I ask God to tell Charlene th...

The Owner of the Kingdoms

The world has many kingdoms, so to speak, and their ownership is a complicated issue. Romans 13:1 tells us that rulers have been appointed by God for his purposes. He is in control, yet God does not have ownership of all governments. Those belong to Satan. One of many reasons that an honest reading of Genesis is important is the concept of federal headship . That term is not in the Bible, but the concept is there. Satan is the god of this world because when Adam betrayed God by sinning, ownership transferred to him. Hand holding world, Pixabay / geralt (Gerd Altmann) During the temptations of Jesus, Satan essentially waved a ring full of keys at Jesus, saying that he had the rights to them. Not every bit of real estate on Earth belongs to him, though. Christians who "walk the walk" and not justs "talk the talk" have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus and are adopted as children of God (Galatians 4:3-7). We are under his authority but also in a spiritual warfare (E...

Why Believing in a Literal Adam is Important

There are professing Christians who have not given much thought to what they believe, especially regarding the first eleven chapters of Genesis. Unfortunately, they are often carried along by the currents of liberal theology or disinterested clergy — even in churches that are conservative in other ways. People may have opinions that Adam and Eve were mythological or they were part of an incidental Bible story. God does not care about opinions. He has given us his Word, and we need to get an understanding of the foundations of our theology. Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden ,  Johann Wenzel Peter There was a pastor who responded to my inquiry about creation by saying that he never really thought about it. Then he added, "The Framework Hypothesis , I suppose." He is teaching doctrine to people, but didn't dig enough into Genesis, which is foundational to all major Christian beliefs . His teachings are incomplete in many ways. This pastor will have some explaining to do (Ja...

The Genesis Flood in the New Testament

Although most professing Christians claim to believe the Bible, they obviously do not read it. Many are deceived by cults and scoffers. These Christians may think the Genesis Flood is a myth taken from other Eastern cultures. Why? Because smart people said so. The appeal to authority is often fallacious (as seen above). It is legitimate to ask Christians what they do with the fact that the Flood is mentioned in other parts of the Old Testament. These references indicate judgment, as the Flood was a judgment. Then doubters also need to deal with the New Testament. Ocean waves, RGBStock / rkirbycom If they doubt the authority of the Old Testament, how about the fact that Jesus, Peter, Paul, and others referred to it? Not as an allegory, but as literal history. The Flood was a judgment, but also used as a reminder of the coming Judgment — there is no way it could have been a local event. Denying the Genesis Flood also denies history and also the authority of Scripture, and these peopl...

Making the Holy Spirit Female

There is enough Scripture twisting already, but some owlhoots want more so they can further their agendas. The Trinity (God in three persons, but is still one being) is denied by several, even professing Christians. Some deny that Jesus is God and make him a created being instead — Jehovah's Witnesses teach that today . One with an interesting name is the  Pneumatomachian heresy , asserting that the Holy Spirit is not God. (The JWs believe that he is God's active force.) A newer corruption of the Bible tries to make the Holy Spirit female. White dove (not saying, "Ooh baby ooh"), Pexels / mali maeder Pay attention when reading the Bible, especially the New Testament. It is obvious from the text that the Holy Spirit, just like the Father and Son, is described as masculine. There are times when the way to resolve a conflict is by using the original languages. In this case, certain words and their genders are misapplied. Feminazis and others are thwarted with deeper in...

Adam and Eve, Both Created in the Image of God

In this age of gender-inclusive Bible translations that take male words and add female ("sons" becomes "sons and daughters"), this political correctness is absurd. Some translations that do this are not necessarily mistranslating if it can be justified by the original text. It is unnecessary. I reckon that for centuries, people used the word men  to include women without having to be explicit. Mayhaps the political correctness and "inclusivity" in translations can cause confusion. To question if women are also made in God's image can be easily answered. The Creation of Eve (circa 1520), Florentine school One way to understand is to read the Bible. Context is paramount, and many times it is clear that words like man  clearly mean people , which last I knew included women. When something is written to or about males only, the text is clear. (On a contemporary side note, girls have objected to being addressed with the word guys , "We're not guys...

The New Age, Christians, and Evolution

by Cowboy Bob Sorensen  While scanning posts by Why?Outreach on Fascistbook, I saw a post about the New Age in the church . A few years ago, New Age materials were very popular. There were seminars, celebrities who channeled spirits, UFOs, astrology, and other things. Meditation was a big deal. Some of the excitement seems to have faded lately and things have been rebranded. There are people who will say, "I am not religious, just spiritual." Well, they are  religious about this "new" pagan and Eastern religious stuff, but they reject the God of the Bible. New Age meditation, Pixabay / Okan Caliskan (Activedia) Although practitioners may not use or ever know the term New Age, its aspects remain. If they are not attempting to communicate with their "higher self" or other spirits, they may be trying to attain "Christ consciousness." This last one may be appealing because it has a name that seems compatible with Christianity. However, like with so ...

John Lennox, Jack Collins, and Bible Compromise

People adore celebrities, often accepting their opinions and pronouncements on various topics without question. Christians have their celebrities as well. Many are current stars in the music industry, others are known for their lectures, debates, and occasionally for sermons. It is indeed unfortunate that we admire people for wit and charm but may not check what they say with the Bible. Some have said things that are not only wrong, but harmful. These need to be identified and (if possible) shown their errors. This applies to Drs. John Lennox and Jack Collins. Mountains, Pexels / Sergio Zhukov John Lennox is primarily a mathematician who uses philosophy and mixes in some theology. He easily dismantles atheism. Unfortunately, he accepts something that atheists rely on: deep time. Lennox not only accepts it, but encourages Christians to reject what the Bible clearly indicates about the young earth. He also believes in a local Flood. Jack Collins is not so much a celebrity as someone with...

Genesis and the View from the Hill

Many times, people need to saddle up and ride to the top of the hill and get the big picture. That is figurative of course. The point is that it is good to mentally get to a better vantage point and not just focus on the immediate details. Decades ago, evangelism was a relatively frequent occurrence, and even unbelievers often had a modicum of respect for the Bible and clergy. In later years, Western society has become secularized; many in the public have contempt for God and also for Christians — especially biblical creationists. Jesus teaching, from Free Christian Illustrations Today, society is infected with evolutionism, which is important to atheistic secularism. Telling someone that he is a sinner and in need of repentance can be confusing. Getting the view from the hill of the big picture includes Genesis. Sin made its first appearance there with Adam and Eve. Also, God is the Creator and he makes the rules — we did not create ourselves, nor did "Mother Nature." Jesus ...

Good Without God — by what Standard?

Too bad about yardsticks, and meter sticks, they are not making them any longer. In the physical world, there are units of measure which are standardized. Otherwise, your  yard or meter would be different from my  yard or meter, and so on. Confusion would result. Morality is similar to this (and therefore, ethics). Professing atheists often claim to be "good without God." Yes, atheists do good things. However, atheist organizations like this one often trample the rights of Christians through legislative coercion because they think they are doing good. Atheists are inconsistent. Measuring devices and office supplies, Unsplash / Dan Cristian PădureÈ› An angry misotheist recently parroted Clinton Richard Dawkins, judging God as narcissistic, sick and sadistic. This was in response to a post was made about the Genesis Flood. He also indicated that he hates Christians. When I pointed out that he was using his own arbitrary standard, he had a snarky reaction. This sort of thing hap...
