Greater Impact — Lincoln or Darwin

Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln had a birth date in common, but similarities between the two men are rather sparse. Obviously they lived in different countries. Darwin was highfalutin but Lincoln was born in poverty and had to work his way up. A similarity between them is that both hard to market themselves, Darwin with influential friends and knowing how to sell his ideas , Lincoln was in the Illinois state legislature, then the House of Representatives, ultimately President. Very different personalities and beliefs, each had a lasting impact on society. On this fifteenth annual Question Evolution Day , it is important to contrast the influence each of them had. Since the stories of evolution are very old, someone would have come up with an allegedly scientific version. Indeed, we almost had Wallacism instead of Darwinism . There is compelling evidence that near the end of his life, Abe became a Christian; his beliefs underscored his policies. Charlie's religious beliefs are de...

Interracial Marriage and the Bible

Decades ago, I remember my parents speaking in a disapproving manner about a marriage between black and white people. There was something about staying with "their own kind" because the couple would trouble from both sides. Nowadays, mixed marriages are common, but they still may receive some flak. For millennia, people have had negativity toward different groups due to pigment, culture, and other things. Racism sounded scientific because of Darwinism and it grew tremendously because of it. Biblically, God created only one race  — and science is catching up with the Bible. Bible and wedding rings, Pexels / Alexander Mass Just a side note here. I am writing this on what would have been our twentieth wedding anniversary if my wife had not died just over two years ago. Remember the evolution story about Neanderthals? Stupid brutes that were a link between humans and apelike creatures — except that the evidence shows they were fully human , and they interbred with modern humans. ...

Christians and Racial Divisions

We hear about races and racism all the time, and some folks seem to be extremely race conscious — thinking of their race as a priority. They even intertwine their personal identities with their race. It may come as a shock, but races do not exist ! From a biblical standpoint, there is only one race. (Nations, ethnic groups, and other distinguishing characteristics, sure.) Another startling fact is that racism accelerated under Darwinism. The Bearded Buddha hinged his evolution story on his own racism. Different ethnic hands, Pixabay / Rhythm_In_Life People who have paid attention to American political news have probably noticed the accusations that Donald Trump is a racist and so are those who voted for him. (How they deal with Blacks for Trump and similar groups is unclear.) Leftist women seek to punish their men who voted for him, and sore losers rail against Trump supporters, sometimes with violence. And yet, none of their accusations have merit. Angry leftists "think" wit...

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion versus the Bible

There are many ideas that seem good, even biblical, on the surface but are actually carriers of insidious ideas. Taking care of the environment is actually a biblical concept , but is a Trojan Horse for Marxism and other views. People may say something that is agreeable but mean something else. Years ago, I expressed disdain for New Year's resolutions. Then I was asked, "Are you against setting goals?" She had a belief and made me into a villain for not thinking her way. Examine wording on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Hands of diverse group, Pexels / fauxels Years ago, people were excluded from services, employment, and basic human dignity because of ethnicities and other things. Things have changed. For example, now we see signs and training modules in our jobs that stress how The Company values diversity and will not discriminate. (Of course, their policy also echoes the law, so they are not exactly heroes in this.) I work with people who have religious views and l...

The Biblical Response to Racism

Bigotry exists in many forms, and people have had fear, suspicion, and even hatred of those who are different in some way. It can even be based on geographical locations. (I've been snubbed by people in the Southern United States for being a "Yankee" — I knew an American of German ancestry who detested people in France! Strange.) The most common form of antipathy toward people who are different is commonly called racism , and I believe that both skin color and cultures are distinguishing characteristics to make it easier to hate people of other "races". The race issues will be the limiting factor for this post. Credit: Pixabay / Rhythm_In_Life Today's politically-charged climate brings racism to the fore in ways that are unprecedented, many times with loaded terms and false accusations leading to violence. The racism issues seem to be either excessively complicated or oversimplified, often prompted by people having political and cultural "tunnel v...
