Thoughts of Heaven and Getting There

People have ideas about what Heaven is like, but much of those are from media mythologies. People have wings, walking on clouds, have halos...storytelling. Religious figures in classical art were depicted with halos, so that may be a source for the myth. Reality is far different and more awesome.

It has been almost two years since my wife died, and I will meet her in Heaven along with others I knew who have gone before in a grand reunion. Indeed, when it is time for me to go, I picture her and Jesus coming for me.

I'll allow that many ideas that people have about Heaven are speculative and non-biblical, Christians included. We learn some things from Scripture about it and about the departed, but there can be a mix (some of my ideas would be rejected by theologians). I have been told to talk to my wife because she is watching over me. I tell them that she's got Heaven stuff to do. When I wake up in the morning, I ask God to tell Charlene that I love her and miss her.

The end of the Book it tied in with the beginning. God created the heavens and the earth and made Adam and Eve stewards of Earth. Adam and Eve sinned, giving ownership of the kingdoms of the world to Satan. Those of us who are in Christ are not under his control and go to Heaven, not Hell.

We are given accounts of visions in the Bible, but the clearest is in Revelation. No cloud walking or halos, as I said. No more crying or pain. Peace. Questions will be answered. But getting there is vitally important. Right now, when people die, they reach their final destination: Heaven or Hell. There is no doubt, and it is made clear. The other way to Heaven is when Jesus returns in glory. Whichever way, you had better be ready. I am ready to go.
We did not spark into life from a primordial soup or stardust without any purpose or plan. We know that the ultimate destination of Christ’s followers is the heavenly state of “the new heavens and earth,” which we generally refer to as heaven. Yet many of the details about that incredible and mysterious place remain hidden in a spiritual realm. Even the most impressive of telescopes cannot peer beyond the physical limits of our mortal lives.
