Genesis and the View from the Hill

Many times, people need to saddle up and ride to the top of the hill and get the big picture. That is figurative of course. The point is that it is good to mentally get to a better vantage point and not just focus on the immediate details.

Decades ago, evangelism was a relatively frequent occurrence, and even unbelievers often had a modicum of respect for the Bible and clergy. In later years, Western society has become secularized; many in the public have contempt for God and also for Christians — especially biblical creationists.

Today, society is infected with evolutionism, which is important to atheistic secularism. Telling someone that he is a sinner and in need of repentance can be confusing. Getting the view from the hill of the big picture includes Genesis. Sin made its first appearance there with Adam and Eve. Also, God is the Creator and he makes the rules — we did not create ourselves, nor did "Mother Nature." Jesus took his hearers back to Moses several times, and therefore, to Genesis.

Is creation evangelism, in the sense of using Genesis to help explain and proclaim the Gospel, new? Is it a method employed by ministries such as CMI purely to counter the harmful cultural effects of the teaching of evolution in our modern day? Many think so, but this is not the case. Laying a foundation from Genesis confirms the ‘big picture’ of the Bible and salvation, something that is often lacking in today’s evangelism and teaching.

Evolution (which is the justification for humanist beliefs paraded as science) has immunized people today from responding to the Gospel, because they think that ‘science has disproved the Bible’. However, it was not always like this.
