Approaching Asteroid, and a Prophesy Warning

Certain sky watchers are looking for trouble from asteroids, and they sound the alarm if some look like they will track too close to the earth. A big 'stroid giving us a near miss will still cause a passel of problems. A direct impact would spoil your day

Remember Apophis? No, not the false Egyptian god that shares the name, but the 'stroid that got people agitated. Some Christians thought it fit Bible prophecy about the last days. They were wrong. Now 2024YR4 is coming around, and we know how some religious folks will act.

Let's face it, there are many professing Christians who are not grounded in the Word. In addition, prophecy gets attention — and money. There are people who actually reject how God required a perfect record from prophets in the Old Testament: If their prophecies did not come true, they deserved the death penalty! Today, "Thus saith the Lord" claims are swallowed, even though the "prophet" gets a passel of them wrong. Those they get right can easily fall into the law of averages for guesswork.

Will there be pretend prophets, people setting end-times dates, and all that stuff? You bet your sweet bippy! As with other things dramatic and sensational, based Christians need to take things slow and examine what people say in light of the Word of God. That is our ultimate authority.
Many people have asked me about the news reports of an asteroid possibly hitting the earth in seven years. This asteroid was discovered in late December by the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS). ATLAS uses four 0.5-meter robotic telescopes to search for near earth objects (NEOs), which include both asteroids and comets. NEOs are objects that orbit the sun close to the earth and hence could collide with us. Such a collision might have a devastating impact on civilization, so discovering NEOs with that potential would be desirable, though it’s not clear what effective response we might have to such a threat.
