If We Had Only Been Ready

by Cowboy Bob Sorensen

A big red flag for many Christians is when someone says, "God gave me a message for you." Not hardly! I do not think I am being hypocritical going down from that a notch and saying, "God gave me an inspiration for an article," however. Just after the church service, I got a scam text message.

Some scammers are very sophisticated, even using artificial intelligence to record someone's voice and then call a friend or relative. (Also, never answer the phone with "yes".) I have enough knowledge to laugh at this one.

Aside from not having such an account, I've had other scam text messages that even had the name of the company wrong. Let's just pretend for a moment that you get an alarming text or email from a company you have an account with. Never click or tap on a link. Instead, call the company from a number on file, or go to their site without clicking a link the probably scammer provided. Deal with genuine customer service if something seems genuinely amiss, Miss.

The above was a public service message but also an illustration. Before this arrived, Pastor Wes said:
...we fight against the hopelessness and the strain of the challenges of life by reminding ourselves of what is true. This is our confession — we confess what is true. And if we're going to confess what is truth it demands that we know the Word. That we know the Word...

The pastor has frequently reminded me since my beloved wife died fourteen months ago and my faith was shaken to focus on what is real, what is true — which is the Word of God.

Other biblical creationists and I are frustrated by people who say they believe in recent creation and the Genesis Flood, but atheists clean their clocks in discussions and online. Why? The creationists are superficial; an unbeliever is not likely to fall to his knees in repentance because they were shown a pusillanimous platitude on a cute graphic. Fortunately, there are some who take the time to learn the basics of their worldview and where to find resources.

Many pastors and teachers who believe the Bible try to get Christians to spend time in it, and to get good teachings. Stay away from the heretics!

These are echoes from since the church began, but too many professing Christians are unknowingly false converts or spiritually lazy. That's right, I said it! False teachers come around and they get deceived. Bad things happen and they are ill-prepared in dealing with them. Some have their faith shipwrecked, which is worse than falling for a financial scam or getting embarrassed by atheists.

Get into the Word and grow. Focus on what is true.
