Clothes Laid Out and Waiting

by Cowboy Bob Sorensen  Go down the short hallway, past the bathroom, through the open door of the bedroom. Look behind the door. You see several things such as mostly unused crutches from my knee surgery, a clothes drying rack, two 3-drawer plastic storage units, and more. On top of a storage unit are a pair of pants, a shirt, and shoes. Unpretentious clothes. Charlene had efficiently laid them out so she could use them when she returned from her surgery. She is not coming back for them. Ever. This is being posted four weeks from the day she passed away. My beloved wife's clothes are waiting in vain for her return Most everyone has heard it said that we are not guaranteed tomorrow. In her case, she did not finish "today," the day of her surgery, when she was stricken. In the midst of my bitter tears, I know that she was a child of the living God. When the angel came to escort her to Jesus, Charlene must have been thrilled to be free of a life that had so much physical an...

The New Age, Christians, and Evolution

by Cowboy Bob Sorensen  While scanning posts by Why?Outreach on Fascistbook, I saw a post about the New Age in the church . A few years ago, New Age materials were very popular. There were seminars, celebrities who channeled spirits, UFOs, astrology, and other things. Meditation was a big deal. Some of the excitement seems to have faded lately and things have been rebranded. There are people who will say, "I am not religious, just spiritual." Well, they are  religious about this "new" pagan and Eastern religious stuff, but they reject the God of the Bible. New Age meditation, Pixabay / Okan Caliskan (Activedia) Although practitioners may not use or ever know the term New Age, its aspects remain. If they are not attempting to communicate with their "higher self" or other spirits, they may be trying to attain "Christ consciousness." This last one may be appealing because it has a name that seems compatible with Christianity. However, like with so ...

John Lennox, Jack Collins, and Bible Compromise

People adore celebrities, often accepting their opinions and pronouncements on various topics without question. Christians have their celebrities as well. Many are current stars in the music industry, others are known for their lectures, debates, and occasionally for sermons. It is indeed unfortunate that we admire people for wit and charm but may not check what they say with the Bible. Some have said things that are not only wrong, but harmful. These need to be identified and (if possible) shown their errors. This applies to Drs. John Lennox and Jack Collins. Mountains, Pexels / Sergio Zhukov John Lennox is primarily a mathematician who uses philosophy and mixes in some theology. He easily dismantles atheism. Unfortunately, he accepts something that atheists rely on: deep time. Lennox not only accepts it, but encourages Christians to reject what the Bible clearly indicates about the young earth. He also believes in a local Flood. Jack Collins is not so much a celebrity as someone with...

Genesis and the View from the Hill

Many times, people need to saddle up and ride to the top of the hill and get the big picture. That is figurative of course. The point is that it is good to mentally get to a better vantage point and not just focus on the immediate details. Decades ago, evangelism was a relatively frequent occurrence, and even unbelievers often had a modicum of respect for the Bible and clergy. In later years, Western society has become secularized; many in the public have contempt for God and also for Christians — especially biblical creationists. Jesus teaching, from Free Christian Illustrations Today, society is infected with evolutionism, which is important to atheistic secularism. Telling someone that he is a sinner and in need of repentance can be confusing. Getting the view from the hill of the big picture includes Genesis. Sin made its first appearance there with Adam and Eve. Also, God is the Creator and he makes the rules — we did not create ourselves, nor did "Mother Nature." Jesus ...

Good Without God — by what Standard?

Too bad about yardsticks, and meter sticks, they are not making them any longer. In the physical world, there are units of measure which are standardized. Otherwise, your  yard or meter would be different from my  yard or meter, and so on. Confusion would result. Morality is similar to this (and therefore, ethics). Professing atheists often claim to be "good without God." Yes, atheists do good things. However, atheist organizations like this one often trample the rights of Christians through legislative coercion because they think they are doing good. Atheists are inconsistent. Measuring devices and office supplies, Unsplash / Dan Cristian PădureÈ› An angry misotheist recently parroted Clinton Richard Dawkins, judging God as narcissistic, sick and sadistic. This was in response to a post was made about the Genesis Flood. He also indicated that he hates Christians. When I pointed out that he was using his own arbitrary standard, he had a snarky reaction. This sort of thing hap...

Natural Selection from the Beginning

When I first attempted to defend creation and refute descent with modifications evolution, I reacted more than responded. This is mainly because I was unprepared and needed more input from biblical creation science sources. Mayhaps I was afraid the evolutionists were right, and I did not want to give them ammunition. There are some things that creationists and evolutionists do not realize. One is that everyone has the same evidence, nobody has ours and  theirs . Interpretations are very important. Some details are agreed upon by both camps. One is natural selection. Eden roses, Pexels / Sveta Moisseyeva However, the way Charles Darwin used natural selection was as a creative force of nature, giving rise to new life forms. He made it seem like Natural Selection was an entity,   and sometimes his disciples do that as well. It is not about the struggle for survival, death, and all that stuff. Natural selection is simply about reproduction. Christians and creationists may be skitt...

Noah and the Ministry of Condemnation

To be frank (mind if I call you Frank?), operating an online creation science ministry and writing weblogs gets mighty frustrating. While attacks by atheopaths go with the territory (it is who they are and what they do), unprepared and apathetic Christians are hard to take. I have prayed many times if the Lord wants me to continue. Lack of response by readers is cumbersome, but prophets in the Old Testament were told to preach repentance. Few people listened. We can only speculate on details, but Noah was a herald of righteousness (2 Peter 2:5). Noah Offers up Thanks / Joseph Anton Koch , 1814 God promised that he would be saved along with his family in the Ark, which may have been in the back of his mind that preaching repentance was in vain. It is probable that he tried to convince people to repent and come along — there was plenty of room. People were constantly wicked which is probably why there were no takers. Preaching and teaching may appear to be futile, whether repentance to ...

Resurrection Hope for the Christian

One of the disheartening things about Easter is how the secular world turns the event into a merchandising opportunity, all about selling candies and other stuff. It gets worse every year. Also, uninformed Christians join with professing atheists in wrongly saying that Easter is a pagan holiday . It is of first importance to proclaim the bodily Resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Unfortunately, Christians can add to the distractions mentioned above by over-spiritualizing the Resurrection and forgetting about the physical aspects in our blessed hope. Looking outward from the empty tomb, Unsplash / Pisit Heng Sometimes when we write, we word things in such a way as to anticipate skeptics. This is common among apologists. Paul the Apostle added some details and explanations presumably because of heresies that were already developing. In contrast, the Resurrection accounts in the Gospels were straightforward narratives. Also, keep in mind that the disciples clearly believed what they were...

Attempting to Deny the Trinity

The doctrine of the Trinity is essential, even though the word itself does not appear in Scripture. It has been believed by churches that call themselves Christian for centuries, but less so nowadays because of increasing apostasy. The church fathers also taught this vital doctrine. People like to understand things. The Trinity, where Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one person and not three, is hard to understand. Christians accept it by faith and can see the Trinity is clearly taught in the Bible. However, atheists, people of other religions, and liberal professing Christians deny it. Trefoil (Trinity) symbol image credit: Pixabay /  Philip Barrington There are those who try to justify their unbelief by cherry-picking verses in an effort to use the Bible against itself. Sometimes they resort to ridicule, acting like atheists or flat-earthers. S ome do not think logically, p ossibly because they are emotionally invested in being "right." What follows are links to a two-part ...

Selecting Books for the Bible

There is a question that is common to believers, skeptics, children, and others about how the church got the books of the New Testament. (Someone said that the Bible was written by "old wise men," which shows an assertion based on massive ignorance.) It is also fair to ask what the early church accepted. In the early days, Christians were persecuted and had to meet in secret. There were also false gospels and letters supposedly signed by the apostles that would crop up that had to be evaluated. First page of Genesis, RGBStock /  Billy Frank Alexander With an exception regarding the book of Revelation , almost all of the books in the New Testament were accepted by the early church. When someone came along and dropped a Gospel of Thomas  or a history of the childhood of Jesus (the latter apparently had some pretty wild stuff), for example, those texts were examined for some key details. God inspired the Bible but worked through human authors and copyists who wrote the original ...

Why God Judged the World with a Flood

A topic that causes a great deal of discussion is the global Genesis Flood, and especially why it happened in the first place. There are many details that can be covered (and have been by others) which would make this post excessively long. I was in a discussion the other day, and the method  of the Judgment caused some speculation. God could have sent a plague, stopped atoms in their paths and everything would instantly disintegrate, or something else. Yet he chose t0 send a global deluge. Noah's Ark, Pixabay /  Jeff Jacobs There were several reasons for the Judgment that can be summed up by saying that humanity had become violently evil all the time. It may be hard for some folks to accept, but God is sovereign and has the right to judge people. He is holy, mankind is sinful. In his mercy, he saved eight people and many critters to start repopulating the world after the Flood. When reading the Old Testament, there are several instances where people set up stones as monuments...
