The Owner of the Kingdoms

The world has many kingdoms, so to speak, and their ownership is a complicated issue. Romans 13:1 tells us that rulers have been appointed by God for his purposes. He is in control, yet God does not have ownership of all governments. Those belong to Satan.

One of many reasons that an honest reading of Genesis is important is the concept of federal headship. That term is not in the Bible, but the concept is there. Satan is the god of this world because when Adam betrayed God by sinning, ownership transferred to him.

During the temptations of Jesus, Satan essentially waved a ring full of keys at Jesus, saying that he had the rights to them. Not every bit of real estate on Earth belongs to him, though. Christians who "walk the walk" and not justs "talk the talk" have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus and are adopted as children of God (Galatians 4:3-7). We are under his authority but also in a spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:12).

Several times, I have mentioned watching supposedly true spirit encounters. (Most are fake or inconclusive, but a few are somewhat compelling.) Some people in those video clips who exhibit characteristics of unbelievers have used the name of Jesus to get spirits to stop their activities. It does not go well. Believers who know their authority and what they're doing can foul up the enemy's activities when they call upon Jesus.

Also, when real believers are undergoing an alien abduction, crying out to Jesus brings the activity to a screeching halt. That's right, even though the kingdoms of the world are Satan's legal property, the born again Christian is a child of God and belongs to him.
When God created the world, He stated that mankind would “have dominion” over God’s creation (Genesis 1:26, 28). The first man was Adam, and so Adam was head of the human race. God’s relationship to Adam was, in effect, that of Supreme Commander (God) to Executive Officer (Adam). And, in the expression and demonstration of this relationship, God required Adam to obey one command that God had given him, i.e., not to eat from one specified tree in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:16–17).
